Using Windows 11 Voice Typing (Quick Start)
Summary
Windows 11 includes a built-in Voice Typing tool that lets you speak instead of typing. This guide shows you how to turn it on and start using it.
How to Use Voice Typing
- Click into any text box in any app (email, Word, Teams chat, web form, etc.). Voice typing will not start unless a text field is selected.
- Press the Windows key + H at the same time to open the Voice Typing toolbar.
- When you see "Listening...", begin speaking. Windows will convert your speech into text.
- To stop Voice Typing, press the Windows key + H again or click the microphone icon.
Tips
- For punctuation, say: "comma", "period", "question mark", etc...
- Speak clearly and at a moderate pace for best accuracy.
- Voice Typing works in most apps with text field (Word, Notepad, Teams, browsers, etc.).
Troubleshooting
- Voice Typing doesn't open: Make sure your cursor is in a text field.
- Microphone not working: Go to Settings ---> System ---> Sound and verify the correct microphone is selected.
- Poor accuracy: Reduce background noise and speak clearly.
