Office 365 for students

Office 365 Pro Plus is available as a free download for all M State students.

This allows students to install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Skype for Business, Publisher and Access on up to five personal PCs, tablets or mobile devices. Macs are eligible only for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Skype for Business.

Step 1

Go to: https://login.microsoftonline.com.

*Where it says Email* Sign in using this format with: StarID@go.minnstate.edu for the username where Star ID is your StarID (example: jj1122xx@go.minnstate.edu). See example below.

The password that you will type is the same password you use with your StarID.

NOTE: You will be able to log back into your Microsoft account any time at https://login.microsoftonline.com to install Office 365 on your other personal devices. On your mobile devices, you will go to your App Store and search for Office 365. You can then install the individual apps you want. Sign in with yourstarid@go.minnstate.edu and your current StarID password.

Step 2

Choose the Install Office option on the right side of the web page. It will look similar to the image below.

Choose Office 365 apps from the drop-down menu. (See the below image)

Follow the on-screen instructions and click Run or Yes when prompted.

Continue following the on-screen steps.

Note: Do NOT go offline or disconnect from the internet during this process or while Office is installing in the background. Going offline or disconnecting will cause the download and installation to fail, requiring you to start over from the beginning.

Step 3

Once installation is complete, if prompted for a username and password to sign in, you will enter the same credentials as above, yourstarid@go.minnstate.edu and your current StarID password.
