Change StarID Password to Avoid a Forced Reset

You may have heard that Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) experienced a cybersecurity incident recently. Out of an abundance of caution, the Minnesota State System Office is also asking M State students to reset their passwords early this week.

Change your StarID password at https://starid.minnstate.edu/ by Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 12 p.m. in order to avoid a forced reset.

Beginning Monday evening, Feb. 26, affected students will receive a message stating that you have 24 hours to reset your password. The password reset will be forced during the afternoon/evening on Tuesday, February 27th. This includes all StarID passwords that have not changed since February 1, 2024. As we go through this process, new passwords may take some time to sync. If the new password does not work when attempting to log in, try your old password.

  • If you changed your password on or after February 1, 2024, you will not be forced to reset your password.
  • Practice good password hygiene by changing passwords often, not re-using passwords across platforms, and using two-step authentication where available.
