M State Sign-In Changes Beginning November 19th

Summary

Learn about M State’s November 19 sign-in changes, including your new username format, affected services, and troubleshooting steps.

Body

Beginning November 19, 2026, M State is transitioning to Minnesota State's updated identity and account management system. This change standardizes the usernames students and employees use when signing in to M State and Minnesota State technology services.

Your StarID password is not changing as part of this transition.

What username should I use?

Students: Use your full Minnesota State student username (YourStarID@go.minnstate.edu).
Employees: Use your full Minnesota State student username (YourStarID@minnstate.edu).

Where will I use this username?

Use your full Minnesota State username when connecting to M State Wi-Fi and printing, and when signing in to services such as Microsoft 365, D2L Brightspace, Workday, Zoom, Kaltura, SpartanNet, and other M State systems that ask for your Minnesota State username.

What should I expect after November 19th?

Most M State and Minnesota State services are expected to remain available during the transition. However, as accounts and M State technology services are updated, temporary interruptions or additional sign-in prompts may occur.

After the transition, you may need to:

  • Sign in again or reconnect to Wi-Fi, printing services, or other M State services
  • Employees should restart your M State-issued computer or laptop so it can reconnect to M State services
  • Contact the Computer Help Center if you experience problems connecting through VPN or other M State network services

If you are prompted for your Minnesota State username, use your full Minnesota State username.

You do not need to make any changes before November 19th.

What if I am both an employee and a student?

You will have separate employee and student usernames:

  • YourStarID@minnstate.edu for your work as an employee
  • YourStarID@go.minnstate.edu for your activities as a student

Although these are separate identities, your password will remain synchronized, so you will continue to use the same StarID password with both usernames. When signing in, make sure you are using the account that matches what you are trying to access.

Troubleshooting sign-in problems

If you have difficulty signing in after November 19:

  1. Restart your computer or device and try again.
  2. Verify that you are using your full Minnesota State username.
  3. Continue using your existing StarID password.
  4. If you are both an employee and a student, verify that you are using the correct account for the activity.
